the story

We started Sago House in 2020 with no money, no backing, and no clue what was coming. Following our motto “Don’t Try” (C. Bukowski), we chose reusability, up-cycling, and good old fashioned hustle to build an eclectic space hidden away on the top level of a Sago Street shophouse.

Just three of us, a shophouse attic, and the belief that if we built it with our own hands, maybe it would mean something. We hustled, and opened at the start of the pandemic, survived and have run on a new cocktail menu every single week.

From day one, Sago has been about heart and community. No million-dollar fit-out—just reusability, stubbornness, and the people who walk through our doors. That little DIY attic bar became home to great music, decent drinks, and the kind of hospitality that doesn’t need polish to be real.

Fast forward: we’ve moved into a new home at Duxton Hill, but the DNA hasn’t changed. We still sling six fresh cocktails every week, built off classic styles but twisted with market-fresh produce and local ideas. We still keep it raw, eclectic, and alive.

Somehow along the way, we picked up a few shiny things, but the truth is we’re still the same idiots, still building, still standing.

If you’re looking for white tablecloths and quiet corners, you’re lost. But if you’re into creativity, chaos, and community—we’ve got a seat at the bar for you.
